  • Proven SENSOR DDS® solutions deployed on projects worldwide

Exposed Geomembrane Arc Testing

Exposed liner arc testing using the SENSOR DDS® MIT Arc Tester is a modern technology designed for integrity testing of exposed waterproofing liners in accordance with ASTM D7953. It enables accurate detection of leaks, damage and faulty welds in non-conductive materials such as PVC, TPO and HDPE geomembranes, as well as bituminous membranes, helping ensure reliable waterproofing system testing before cover placement or commissioning.

Covered Geomembrane Testing

SENSOR DDS® Mobile uses the Dipole Method for precise waterproofing liner integrity testing, even when the liner is covered by a protective or drainage layer. The technology makes it possible to reliably locate leaks beneath materials such as gravel, soil, concrete or various liquids, without the need to uncover the waterproofing system itself. This makes the inspection fast, efficient and suitable even for large waterproofing areas.

Continuous Waterproofing Monitoring

SENSOR DDS® offers three levels of online waterproofing monitoring - from the LAM alarm module and semi-automatic 24/7 RMS supervision to the fully automatic CMS system with precise damage location. Each solution uses a network of embedded sensors and automatically notifies responsible personnel by SMS or e-mail when a leak occurs. The right level of protection depends on the type of structure, risk level and required response speed.

Periodic Waterproofing Monitoring

SENSOR DDS® LMS provides periodic waterproofing monitoring through a network of sensors permanently embedded beneath the liner. If a leak occurs, the system immediately triggers a visual and audible alarm and automatically sends a notification by SMS or e-mail. The result: fast response, minimal damage and verifiable real-time control of the liner integrity.

SENSOR DDS® Systems Across Industrial Sectors

SENSOR DDS® systems are successfully used in a wide range of industrial sectors, including:

  • Mining Industry – leach pads, tailings dams, process ponds, stormwater ponds and similar containment structures

35+ Years of Expertise

Since 1990, Sensor has been developing advanced leak detection, Electrical Leak Location (ELL) and liner integrity monitoring technologies for demanding waterproofing projects worldwide.

Pinpoint Leak Location

SENSOR DDS® identifies and locates even very small liner defects, including leaks smaller than 1 mm, helping operators detect problems before they develop into costly failures.

Global Project Experience

SENSOR DDS® technology has been deployed on more than 2,485 projects worldwide, protecting geomembranes, waterproofing liners and containment structures across multiple industries.

Environmental Protection

Early leak detection helps prevent soil and groundwater contamination, reducing the risk of environmental incidents in landfills, reservoirs, industrial facilities and critical infrastructure.

24/7 Liner Monitoring

Permanent SENSOR DDS® monitoring systems provide continuous liner integrity surveillance throughout the service life of the project, with fast alarm response and precise leak location.

Cost and Risk Control

By locating defects early and accurately, SENSOR DDS® helps reduce repair scope, operational downtime, unnecessary excavation and potential costs related to environmental damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our proprietary SENSOR DDS® technologies, including patented monitoring and leak location solutions, are among the most sensitive systems on the market. They can precisely locate even microscopic leaks and openings smaller than 0.1 mm, allowing repairs to be carried out before major fluid leakage and subsoil contamination can occur.

Yes. The SENSOR DDS® Mobile system uses the Dipole Method, a proven Electrical Leak Location (ELL) technique designed for testing geomembrane and waterproofing liner integrity beneath protective cover layers such as soil, gravel, concrete or liquid. This eliminates the need for costly and risky excavation when locating the source of a leak.

The main difference lies in the Electrical Leak Location (ELL) method used and the stage of construction.

  • Exposed geomembrane liner testing – spark testing is performed immediately after installation, allowing even very small defects to be detected before the liner is covered.
  • Covered geomembrane liner testing – under gravel, soil or concrete – is carried out using the SENSOR DDS® Mobile system, which can precisely locate leaks even through a cover layer up to 2 m thick.

Mobile testing is used for one-time liner integrity verification, typically after geomembrane installation and before the liner is covered.

  • Permanent monitoring – LMS / Online uses a sensor network integrated directly into the structure to monitor geomembrane and waterproofing liner integrity 24/7 throughout the entire service life of the project. When damage occurs, the system immediately sends an alarm by SMS or e-mail, helping reduce environmental risks, downtime and remediation costs.
SENSOR DDS® systems are compatible with all common non-conductive waterproofing liners, including HDPE, PVC and TPO geomembranes, as well as bituminous membranes. With the conductive geotextile SENSOR AFISEN, we can also monitor double-liner waterproofing systems.

SENSOR can flexibly support projects of any scale – from smaller local assignments to some of the world’s largest and most technically demanding liner integrity projects.

Our experience includes projects for leading global operators, including major mining developments where the requirements for accuracy, reliability and waterproofing liner quality control are exceptionally high.

As one of the world’s largest specialist companies in waterproofing and geomembrane liner integrity testing, we have an extensive team of qualified experts. This allows us to deploy significant capacity in parallel and manage large-scale projects efficiently – helping deliver work on time, to the required quality standard and according to the specific needs of each client.

At the same time, we bring the same level of expertise, technology and quality control to smaller projects, where speed, efficiency and confidence in properly performed testing are just as important.

Regardless of project size, SENSOR delivers the same standard – precision, experience and global know-how without compromise.

Our technologies act as a first line of defence against ecosystem contamination.

  • Prevention of groundwater contamination: Early detection of microscopic cracks and defects helps prevent hazardous substances – such as landfill leachate or chemicals from mining tailings ponds – from escaping into soil and groundwater.
  • Reduced carbon footprint of repairs: Precise leak location means there is no need to uncover and move thousands of tonnes of soil or gravel when searching for the source of a leak. This significantly reduces emissions from heavy machinery.
  • Support for the circular economy: By monitoring landfill liner integrity, we help ensure that waste remains safely isolated from the surrounding environment for decades.
  • Protection of biodiversity: By reducing the risk of environmental incidents, SENSOR DDS® systems help protect surrounding habitats from irreversible damage caused by toxic substances.

Prevention is significantly less expensive than remediation. SENSOR DDS® systems help reduce costs in four key areas:

  • Minimised repair costs: Thanks to precise leak location – down to centimetre-level accuracy – there is no need to uncover the entire waterproofing area. Only the affected point needs to be repaired, saving excavation work, materials and time.
  • Protection against severe environmental penalties: Environmental incidents can lead to major sanctions from regulatory authorities. SENSOR DDS® provides evidence of liner integrity and enables action to be taken before a leak develops into a serious failure.
  • Potential reduction of insurance costs: Insurers may take the presence of an active monitoring system into account when assessing environmental risk and calculating insurance premiums.
  • Extended service life of the structure: Regular integrity monitoring helps prevent degradation of the subsoil and load-bearing structures, delaying the need for major reconstruction.
Criterion Without SENSOR With SENSOR DDS®
Leak detection Days to weeks - trial and error Immediate location - cm-level accuracy
Scope of work Large-scale uncovering of the liner Local repair at one exact point
